Statement
A Person Frowning at a Salami takes the form of a durational performance embodying stillness and contemplation. The piece features either one or two performers who, remaining motionless, wear a frown directed at a suspended salami.
Drawing from my experiences in retail, this performance turns the salami into an object of contemplation. The choice of a frown, open-ended in its interpretation, pairs with the salami's equally ambiguous nature. The piece stands as a classic example of performance art, leaving its thematic exploration - be it masculinity, death, meat, work, or the salami's formal qualities - open to audience interpretation.
